Cahill Witch Cover Edition + Contest!

Hi! Today I’m sharing various incarnations of the Cahill Witch Chronicles worldwide.

One of my favorite things is getting a box of shiny international editions – and one of my second favorite is stumbling upon the covers online. Authors don’t generally get much information about translations, so I am always super-excited to be tagged on twitter, tumblr, or Facebook. I always remember reading Richelle Mead’s (author of the VAMPIRE ACADEMY books) blog when I was just starting to write YA, about five years ago, and being enraptured by all the fun interpretations of her books from other countries. Before I was published I wrote down a list of author dreams, and one of them was having a shelf of foreign editions of my own. So when those boxes show up on my doorstep, I am always super grateful and take a moment to celebrate, because – dream achieved!

Ok. Let’s go!

Here are the US editions – BORN WICKED hardcover, rebranded BORN WICKED paperback, STAR CURSED hardcover.

SC US cover

I LOVED the original BW hardback. I think it captures the lush, romantic feel of the book really well. The girl looks a bit more like Maura to me than Cate, but I love that it incorporates the garden setting that’s so important in BW. It’s from a photo by French photographer Alexandra Sophie, who is just ridiculously talented. Penguin decided to rebrand the series in a different direction for paperback, with more of a focus on the paranormal, witchy element. I love the pink and the giant moon and the crows, since that imagery is woven throughout the books. (I am not sure Cate would actually HOLD one, though. Eep!) In the rebranded SC, Cate is alone outside and there’s a feeling of loneliness and isolation, which feels pretty appropriate for the book. It’s not my favorite SC cover though – stay tuned for that!

Here are the Turkish editions!

They used the original BW hardcover image and then created their own for SC! Interesting take, no? There is a bit of a magical feel to it, though it strikes me as a bit more Christmas-angel than witch!

And here are the German and Italian editions!

THESE are my favorites! They used another photo by Alexandra Sophie for CURSED. I love how it continues the romantic, flowery motif. The pink title and the way the light’s captured in the Italian edition make me really happy! (Stay tuned for a giveaway of these editions at the bottom!)

Here are the French, Spanish, and Japanese editions of BORN WICKED – all wildly different!

BW French coverBW Spanish cover!!

BW Japanese cover

I love the fall colors of SOEURS SORCIERES and the way it features all three sisters. (It was a bestseller in France when it came out in June! Yay!) The wild red hair and roses in KATE Y SUS HERMANAS really stands out, I think. And I love the pink and the feathers of the Japanese edition! I can’t wait to see what all three of these countries come up with for STAR CURSED.

(The UK edition is going with the rebranded US covers. The Swedish edition has the US hardcover, but I haven’t seen a SC cover for them yet. And the books will be forthcoming in Israel (Hebrew), Brazil (Portuguese, I believe?), Indonesia (?), and Russian. I can’t wait to see all of those, too!)

NOW, if you’ve stuck with me this far, I have 4 prizes to give away! 2 copies each of the Italian and German editions of STAR CURSED to read or sit prettily upon your shelf. Open internationally until next Wednesday (11/20) at noon EST. To enter, just leave a comment telling me: which is your favorite cover for BORN WICKED? And which STAR CURSED? (Also, let me know whether you’d like to enter to win the German or Italian edition or both.)

I LOVE the German covers! (weil ich Deutsch spreche :P) I’m just such a huge fan of the original Born Wicked cover, and am happy they stuck with the same vibe for the German sequel. (Though I do love how blue the STAR CURSED cover is!)

  4. Oooh BOOKS, Foreign books as well. I love the French Born Wicked and I like Star Cursed Italian cover which is similar to German cover right? And put me in for both options 🙂 I have a thing for pretty Foreign covers, I have some Rachel Vincent’s Soul Screamers (well I’m working on it) UK editions.

Hi, Kat! Yep, the Italian & German copies are almost identical, but I think the Italian one is zoomed in a little and the lighting is pumped up a bit. It’s like playing a magic eye game – can you spot the tiny differences? 🙂

  5. Dana Jan says:

What an awesome idea for a giveaway! I speak neither Italian nor German, but that doesn’t matter. They’re both gorgeous! My favorite BORN WICKED is still the original US hardcover. That’s the one I have:) And I love the Italian and German STAR CURSEDs. I would love to win either of those. Thanks so much!

Thank you, Kayla! I’m so glad you like the original blue cover for STAR CURSED – I feel like that hasn’t been many people’s favorites!

  9. The original Born Wicked cover is my favorite. Don’t get me wrong, the rebranded cover is cute but it’s not the original =)

For Star-Cursed, I AM IN LOVE WITH THE GERMAN EDITION. Like is it even real?

And I would like to win both editions. Thanks so much for the giveaway ❤

My favorite is hands down the orig. Born Wicked cover in the US and that has be repeated on some of the other covers – it is STUNNING. It really is a beautiful shot.

  13. Brigitte says:

My favorite cover of Born Wicked is the original US hardcover, but I also really like the colors of the new covers. For Star Cursed, my favorite cover is the italian version of it. I would like to win the italian edition because the cover is beautiful and it matches the first one. Also, I would like to see how much of it I can understand after taking four years of Italian.

    • cahillwitch says:

It’s so cool that you took 4 years of Italian! I only took 1 in college and I can barely read the Italian edition myself – even though I know what it’s supposed to say! Thanks for commenting!

  14. Kate Tilton (Froze8) says:

My favorites are the German/Italian covers and the Japanese cover! I loved the original US cover (a big part of me wishes they would make similar covers again, two editions would be so much fun!).

If I won…josh I’d take whatever foreign edition you’d part with. I have my own little shelf of foreign editions I’m collecting. I’d love for you to be a part of that shelf :)!

    • cahillwitch says:

Two editions would be so much fun – I was saying upthread that I wish there was an option to get a SC jacket that matches the original BW. Alas!

  15. Carina Olsen says:

  20. Nushrika says:

I really love the original cover for Born Wicked and the Japanese version too. For Star Cursed I love the blue cover the night sky just looks lovely 🙂 And I would prefer the German copy. Thanks for the giveaway.

I really like the French cover of Borne Wicked. I like how there together, and the Italion cover of stare cursed. It’s just a beautiful picture.
Ied like to enter to try to win a German signed copie of Born wicked! 🙂 ❤

    • cahillwitch says:

Thanks, Angela! I love that all three sisters are on the French version too – and they’ll all be together on US book #3, SISTERS’ FATE!

  22. They’re all beautiful in different ways, but I love the Italian cover for CURSED and SOEURS SORCIERES the most! (although the Japanese one is pretty cool and the cover of the Spanish one reminds me of a creepy fairy-tale middle grade novel, which is also cool! LOL) I would especially love to win the Italian one since I could read it along with my English and French copies! So happy for all of your success with this series!!

    • cahillwitch says:

Thank you, Jess! I really appreciate all your support! (And the Spanish cover does look a little like a creepy MG, doesn’t it?)

  23. Jessica Naccari says:

I LOVE the original BORN WICKED cover, and I’ve been so, so sad that my STAR CURSED doesn’t match. My favorite SC covers are definitely the German and Italian versions because they match my favorite BW, plus they’re beautiful and magical. I love Cate and Finn in the garden, and they remind me of that. I’d love to win either of those. Thanks!

    • cahillwitch says:

They remind me of Cate in her garden too! I’m so sorry your covers don’t match – I wish there was an option to buy a different SC jacket that matched the original BW!

  24. The original BW is my very favorite, so the Italian and German ones make my heart pretty happy. I’d especially like to win the Italian since I speak it, but either would be cool to have!

  25. I love the german, french, and turkish covers.
